Why are so many penalties being missed across Europe?

Alves, Valencia's Brazilian number one, has become infamous for unparalleled ability when facing penalties. Astonishingly, he has saved 17 of the 37 spot kicks he has faced over the course of his career in La Liga, including efforts from Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Diego Costa, and his latest save broke the record in Spain's top tier, previously held by Barcelona legend Andoni Zubizarreta. Alves is still only 31 years old. He is the best La Liga has ever seen in this regard.

Are keepers cheating? The official rule for goalkeepers at penalties reads as follows: The defending goalkeeper must remain on the goal line, facing the kicker, between the goalposts until the ball has been kicked. Pretty simple, right? Well, in practice, it is pretty difficult to uphold. Keepers almost never stay right on their line until the point at which a penalty is taken. In my opinion, it's actually pretty harsh a rule to implement.

They have hard enough a task as it stands, and if they had to stay on their line it would basically be made impossible.
